Huskies State Champs! Win 4-3 over Lyons Township

Catcher Jack Picchiotti launched a triple into the right-field corner to open the bottom of the 7th inning and then scored the winning run on center fielder Mike Brennan's single as the Oak Park-River Forest Huskies edged Lyons Township 4-3 to capture the Class 4A State Championship on Saturday afternoon at Silver Cross Field in Joliet.

The victory for OPRF marked the Huskies' 13th state appearance and first state title since 1981. The game saw two lead changes before LT knotted the game at 3-3 in the sixth frame. Shortstop Jack Shinsako ended a 7th-inning LT scoring threat after fielding a hard-hit grounder and firing home to Picchiotti to cut down the base-runner at the plate.

OPRF's Zachary Weigel was the winning pitcher. Weigel tossed a complete game for the Huskies, notching four strike-outs and yielding just seven hits, two walks and three runs over seven innings.
