Ponies win 14u Championship

The Oak Park and River Forest 14u "Ponies" win the Chicagoland Sunday Baseball Memorial Day Tournament.

After sweeping their pool and outscoring opponents 35-4, the 14u team advanced to the semi finals.

Outstanding defense played a large role in the semi-final game, as well as strong pitching. In the seventh with OPRF ahead by 1 and the tieing run on second with 2 outs, center fielder Justin Quick made a diving catch to end the game and help the team advance to the finals.

An exciting championship game had Kankakee setting a tone early in the bottom of the first with a 2 run homer. OPRF played "catch up" in almost every frame until the top of the 7th where they scored 4 to erase a 3 run deficit and take the lead for the final time. With the tieing run on second and the winning run on first, pitcher Jackson Koester got the batter to ground out 6-3, Roy Iversen to Ben Hancock, to end it all.

Congratulations to the team and coaches. Special thanks to all those family memebers that made the trek south to cheer on the team and keep the rain at bay.
