At the time of this writing, it is currently NOT raining. But this season, that could change at a moment's notice. We have taken a beating at the concession stand as well as on the fields with all of the canceled games. Each team was originally scheduled to play an 18 game season, playing everyone in their division 6 times. Most likely, not every team will be able to fulfill that goal. Hopefully we will be able to play out the playoff schedule as planned. On average, the playoffs are completed by July 4th. On occasion we have had to play a little bit past the 4th. We know that is problematic for some families and their vacations so we will try to avoid this, if possible.
Knight division playoffs will begin June 22 and Cunningham playoffs will begin June 23. This year's format is a little different; we are using a different tournament format. Each team will have a 3-game pool play; the top two teams will play a 3-game series for the championship and the bottom two teams will play a single consolation game for 3rd place. There is an old saying in our league about how there is the "regular season" and the "real season". We think that this supports that theory perfectly.
Colt baseball is underway. For those of you that don't know, we sponsor at least one team, but we have had as many as 3 in the past. One team is playing in the West Suburban Conference that is run out of Oriole Park in Chicago while the other team is playing in the West DuPage Baseball League that is run out of the Roselle Medinah program. Colt is for boys aged 15 and 16. Occasionally subs are needed to play and those are pulled from the Pony house league teams.
The annual Oak Park and River Forest Baseball All Star games will be held on July 4th at Lindberg Park. The Cunningham division will play at 10am and the Knight Division will play at 1pm. Each team will supply 6 players for their divisional game. Food, music, awards, raffles, and of course, baseball will be in abundance. Bring the whole family.
After the house league season ends, we will put 3 travel teams in the field. There is the 14u National Team, the 13u National Team and the Local Team. The two national teams will participate in the Pony National tournament series that begins with sectionals and culminates with the World Series at the end of July/beginning of August. The Local Team will participate in various tournaments in and around the Chicagoland area. Players can signup to be considered for one of these teams on our website. Consideration will be made based on house league performance, manager input, and if necessary, a one day tryout. Coaches and managers are still being selected.
